Novare - Latin. v. To change, to renew, to transform.
What the hell is this thing, anyway?
The Novare Project began several years ago, with the confession of a secret. I
have been battling anorexia nervosa since my early teen years and in my
freshman year of college decided I was done hiding. I created a postcard and
sent it in to the Postsecret project... But it wasn't chosen for display.
I still wanted the world to know my secret. Being at school showed me that I
wasn't alone in my battle and I wanted to let others fighting eating disorders
know they weren't either.
 | | One in four college-aged women fight an eating disorder.

 | | Anorexia has the highest mortality rate of ANY mental illness.
|
 | | In the end, 20% lose the battle. |

Scary statistics.
Melodrama aside, it's easy to look at the sensationalist statistics and feel like
the eating disorder epidemic is hopeless. I've often felt it, looking at that one
in five death rate. But here's the thing: eating disorders are illnesses, yes, but
they are NOT incurable. EDs are only hopeless if we give up hope.
Refuse to become a statistic!
I chose that as a tagline for the very first T-shirt I scribbled on with a Sharpie.
In many ways, it's a reminder for myself as much as anyone else. The only
way to win this battle is to have solid determination that it is possible and I will
not let it kill me now or ever!
